Before you write: what the meter can and cannot do
Ethicq Sound Meter is a screening tool. It is good enough to
tell a loud room from a dangerous one. It is not a substitute for a certified
sound level meter, and it should not be used as a legal record.
A phone microphone is not a measurement microphone. Every reading carries an
uncertainty figure: the ± beside the number. The app's
What limits this measurement screen states the four bounds for your
device.
its noise floor
its clipping point
its calibration state
where its low-frequency response falls away
If a reading looks wrong, that screen is the fastest answer. Calibrating
against a meter you trust narrows the uncertainty and the app tells you by how
much, before and after.
Common questions
The number seems too low in a loud room
Most likely the microphone is clipping, or your phone is applying automatic
gain control. The app says so on screen when it can detect either. A clipped
measurement is reported as a lower bound rather than a number, because the real
level was higher than the microphone could represent.
It says "below 30" and will not show a number
The room is quieter than the microphone can measure. That is a limit of the
hardware, and showing a smaller number would be inventing one.
Spoken readings are silent
Check the media volume, and that your phone has a speech engine set up. The
app tells you which of the two it is when you ask it to speak.
How do I get my data out?
Open a session and choose Export the per-second series. It is a plain
CSV with the measurement conditions on every row, and it is free. Your data is
yours, and a promise that costs money to act on is not one.
I paid on one phone. Do I have to pay again?
No. Restore the purchase from the paywall screen. Purchases are permanent and
tied to your Apple or Google account, not to a device.

Our pledge
No ads, ever. Not a banner, not an interstitial, not a sponsored row. There is no advertising code in this app.
No tracking. No analytics, no attribution, no third-party SDKs of any kind. Nothing about how you use this app reaches us or anyone else.
Only the sensors we measure with.A sound meter asks for the microphone. It does not ask for your location, your contacts, your photos, or the network.
No retroactive paywalls.A feature that shipped free stays free. We will not move something behind the paywall after you have relied on it.
Purchases are permanent. One payment, no subscription, no expiry. Restoring a purchase takes one tap and works on every device signed in to your account.
Prices are locked for existing customers. If the price rises, it rises for new buyers. What you paid is what you paid.
Your data is yours.Sessions stay on your device. Export is free and always will be. Getting your measurements back out is never something you have to pay for.
Reporting something wrong
If a reading is wrong, tell us what the app said, what your reference said,
and which phone you used. That is enough to reproduce most problems. Bugs go to
the same address as everything else:
[email protected].
